Fourth season of Battlestar to be the last
Battlestar Galactica fans were hoping against this news but earlier this month, the show’s producers, Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, announced that the upcoming fourth season would indeed be the last season for Battlestar Galactica. Upon reading this article over at the HollywoodReporter, I immediately yelled “NOOOOO” and then posted a story up on Kontrib.com here. The upcoming fourth season which won’t really begin until next year will feature 22 episodes and will of course feature Earth at some point. What kind of Earth will it be? Who knows.
So why make the fourth season the last season? Here are some quotes from the two producers:
“This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and finally, an end. Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end and we’ve decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms. And while we know our fans will be saddened to know the end is coming, they should brace themselves for a wild ride getting there - we’re going out with a bang.”
There will be a two hour episode in November called “Razor” which will technically kick off the fourth season - although the rest of the season will begin in January. According to this article over at TrekWeb.com, Razor will be a storyline that will dig into the Pegasus plotline - going back to the beginning - back when the Cylons first attacked. The episode will move through time “sequentially” until you reach the point where Lee takes command of the Pegasus. The two hour episode will also set up events for the upcoming fourth season.
Finally - hoping for a BSG movie? Don’t count on it folks. Why? The owner of BSG feature film rights belongs to Glen Larson - the original creator of BSG. And yes.. as many of you probably know, he’s never been all that happy with the current show. Glen - get over it. Battlestar Galactica has managed to launch a four hour pilot, and run through three seasons of episodes including an upcoming fourth season. I think that says a great deal about it’s popularity. Why not let a movie be made - come on.. even if you hate the idea - think of the movie you’d make. More importantly - think of the gratitude fans would have towards you.
Oh well.. it was worth a shot. Nevertheless, the upcoming fourth season will be the end and expect a two hour episode later this year including a DVD of the two hours immediately afterwards.
