Typo takes German Tourist 13,000 km off course

OMG - this is a funny (yet somewhat sad) story at the same time. A 21 year old German tourist who wanted to visit his girlfriend in Sydney Australia ended up in Sidney, Montana after mistyping the name of the city on flight booking website. That little typo placed Tobi Gutt roughly 13,000 kilometers (8077 miles) from his original destination.

The poor kid was dressed for Sydney’s summer weather only to find the harsher conditions of Sidney’s winter weather. According to CNN, the airline ticket that Tobi Gutt purchased routed him through Portland, Oregon to Billings, Montana. It wasn’t until he was about to board a commuter plane to Sidney did he realize his mistake.. umm we’re not in Kansas anymore!!!

The poor kid spent three days in the Billings airport before he was able to purchase tickets to Australia with 600 euros in cash sent from his family and friends in Germany.

I suppose things could have been worse.. imagine wanting to go to Rome, Italy only to end up in Rome, NY? I’ve driven past Rome, NY several times in college and always wondered if anyone accidentally went to the city when they really wanted to go to Italy.
