It’s all about baseball folks

In case you didn’t realize it and you’re still wondering how Italy beat France in the World Cup - today was the Home Run Derby contest over at the Major League Baseball All Star Game in PNC Stadium Pittsburgh. Honestly - this was one of the cooler home run derby’s because it featured a couple of young-in’s in the form of David Wright of the New York Mets and Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies. Wright jumped out to an early lead after round 1, but tired in the next two rounds. Meanwhile, Howard was smooth and steady and eventually overtook Wright for the title at the end with plenty of outs to spare.

You know, I haven’t gotten this into baseball in quite some time. The last time I was truly psyched about baseball and in particular New York teams was back in 2000 when both the Mets and the Yanks met in the World Series. Unfortunately the Yanks crushed the Mets but alas, it’s a new year.. and the Mets actually look pretty darn good folks.

One of the cooler things that happened in recent memory was back in June when Yvonne surprised me with tickets to a Dodgers-Mets baseball game here in Los Angeles. She had purchased four tix to a game that Pedro Martinez was pitching and then asked three of my friends to join me at the stadium. I had no idea this was going on - in fact, we had a volleyball game that night and I was all set to play at the gym when Yvonne turns around and shows me these tix. Although the Mets lost that night, I had a ton of fun at the ballpark and I totally owe it to Yvonne for doing that for me. THANKS HUN!

So it’s an exciting baseball year folks. It’s the all star break.. it’s time to reflect, to think about the year that has been and to see the very best in baseball play it out on the diamond. IN case you’re wondering who I’m rooting for - it would be the National League of course. Finally, my predictions for the World Series? Well.. as good as I think the Mets are.. I think the Detriot Tigers, Chicago White Sox and the Boston Red Sox are even better. We’ll see of course. It’s a long year with plenty of games to go.
